A HOMEMADE ACAI BOWL IS A REAL TREAT:

the blender to use for homemade acai bowls:

We used our Nutribullet blender to make this acai bowl but there are stronger blenders out there. In order for the frozen fruit to blend quickly we needed to defrost it for around 10 minutes prior to blending it up.

If you want a stronger blender you can try this one out; it’s got great reviews and will blend your fruit really quickly.

When to eat homemade acai bowls:

Although this recipe is in our breakfast and brunch section it can be enjoyed at different times as well. If you’re having it as a meal you may want to add some more toppings to it to make sure you get full.

Additionally, you can have a smaller portion for a refreshing snack and even dessert. It’ll still satisfy your sweet tooth but with fewer unhealthy calories.

Homemade Acai bowls are cheaper & healthier:

Making acai bowls at home is both cheaper and healthier than your other options. Acai bowls at a restaurant can get pretty expensive. A small portion can be around $15, depending on where you live. Once you get the hang of making these at home, you’ll see it’s a no-brainer.

When it comes to calories, unless you make something yourself you never really know what’s inside. If you make these bowls at home you can make sure that no sweeteners are added, you can choose your own granola, and you can make your own size portions.

substitutes & variations:

This recipe can easily be adjusted to your preference and it’ll still taste delicious. Some ideas you can try are:

  • If you don’t like bananas you can substitute them for any other fruit. Just make sure it’s sweet enough to balance out the acai.
  • Any milk or liquid will work, it doesn’t have to be almond milk.
  • Have fun with the toppings. You can try things like coconut flakes, chocolate chips, nuts, and dried fruit.

prep the acai base in advance:

Once you have your blender out it’s a great idea to blend up a few “bases” and have them in the freezer for a later date. The base is just acai, a frozen banana, and some almond milk. This way when you’re ready to have another acai bowl you can just defrost the base and add your fresh toppings.
