Soft and Fluffy Challah Rolls

Eat Challah on your diet!

Is anybody else afraid of taking a slice of Challah because they know they might eat the entire loaf? These rolls save the day. Sometimes you might want Challah even if you’re trying to watch your calorie intake. I don’t know what it is about a slice of Challah, but one slice always turns into two, and then three… etc.

One slice just doesn’t quite do it.

You may not be sure how much of a serving you had since sliced Challah doesn’t come with serving sizes! This may end up causing you to feel unsatisfied. But a roll is a clear serving size, and you can enjoy the entire one and call it a day. That’s why these are so perfect.

You can turn any dough recipe into rolls! This is simply my challah recipe turned into rolls. Here are the simple ingredients:

  • Flour
  • Eggs
  • Yeast
  • Oil
  • Sugar
  • Salt
Challah Rolls

Take your time rolling out the dough:

When you start rolling out the dough it might jump back together at first because of the gluten but if you keep going for a bit it will eventually stay in place. You can take a walk around your kitchen while you roll out the dough 🙂 The more you roll it out the better it will rise the second time!

Assembling challah rolls:

Turning the piece of dough into a roll can seem complex but it’s not at all! You pretty much make a knot out of the long piece of dough and then pinch the pieces underneath to stay in place. Imagine you are making a regular knot and do that with the dough. Don’t worry if the end pieces don’t stay pinched underneath, the rolls will still come out delicious!

Challah and Flavored Oil

Odds and ends:

  • Use any dough recipe and turn it into rolls. A whole wheat dough or water challah dough will work.
  • These are great for Shabbos or for during the week. Have them as a sandwich or with your favorite dip.
  • Top them with any seeds you like.
  • Warm them up for 10 minutes on 300 degrees for a soft and heavenly roll. You can do this whether they were in the freezer or at room temperature.

Make these a fun activity!

Anything with dough is fun to make with others and these rolls are no exception! Perfect for a cold night or a rainy day. You can get the kids involved by having them roll out some dough, and even teach them how to make a knot. Turn on some music, roll up your sleeves, and have fun!
